This quilt achieves its "Modern Retro" appearance from a combination of reproduction prints, feedsack fabric, and repurposed blouses. I only researched the name of this block when the quilt was totally completed; to my horror, the closest match I found was a block documented from 1931 called "Swastika." Please let's remember that ancient symbol, meaning good fortune, has been held sacred to many cultures before its horrific misappropriation in 1930s Germany. I worked on this project for four years and never saw the resemblance! ... so shall instead rename this adaptation of that old block "Cattywampus."The quilted pattern of interlocked tulips is original. It is hand-pieced and machine-quilted.
