Daughter Hayley relocated to Honolulu for the summer of 2021, and mentioned that while surfing at Waikiki, she was often joined by a sea turtle who would bob up to inspect her style. Magical! The pattern "Turtle Beach" from the Pacific Rim Quilt Company seemed like the perfect way to commemorate the event.
Both fabrics were "vintage" ones culled from the cabinet - it's amazing what one can find in the stash if it has been fed enough over three decades. The pattern was cut carefully so that the negative could be applied to the backing fabric. Faux piped binding provided the perfect finish. Machine pieced, machine appliqued, and machine quilted for a quick finish.
